We have LOVED traveling and having friends in town all summer...but this weekend we were HOME...alone! We planned on a weekend of relaxing yet we managed to stay very busy.
On Friday Tyler picked up Ethan, his new little brother from the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, and took him to his first baseball game ever to see the Charlotte Knights, a minor league team in the area. Ethan just turned 8 and couldn't have enjoyed it more. Tyler says he is a big talker with a very creative imagination. They had hotdogs and ice cream at the game and Ethan got a foam finger AND a foam sword to take home. At the end of the game, Ethan asked Tyler what's the best thing that ever happened to him. Being the wonderful husband that he is, Tyler's reply was meeting and marrying Lindsay. (At least that's what he told me!) Ethan's response to Tyler's answer was that the best thing that has ever happened to him, is that someone took him to a baseball game. They seem to be the perfect pair already and Tyler is excited about the next time they get to hang out.
While Tyler was at the game with Ethan, I drove to Winston-Salem to have dinner with my mom and dad. As always, its great to be a quick car trip away so we can do things like this. We aren't sure the next time we will be able to get together, but we realized that meeting "somewhat" in the middle is definitely a great option for getting together when we don't have anything else planned. We did miss Tracy and Tyler and are all looking forward to heading to Nashville next month for Tracy's graduation.
We got up on Saturday and went to see the Proposal. Which I LOVED and Tyler enjoyed much more than he was expecting to! It was a great romantic comedy with adorable actors and a happy ending. Afterwards, we headed home so I could bake some cookies for a BBQ at one of Tyler's clients homes that afternoon. I made snicker-doodle cookies from scratch for the first time and I must say they turned out GREAT! We went to the BBQ and there was plenty to do. This backyard was built for a party. There was a DJ and a swimming pool. There was cornhole and a 6 hole putting course. I have never seen anything like it.
We got up on Sunday and got ready for our day on the lake with Mandie and Drew. We always enjoy spending time with them and Chloe and it was a perfect lake day! We went out to the island for lunch and then spent the rest of the afternoon floating around the boat. We headed home for a relaxing night in which included tomato soup from Jason's Deli and grilled cheese for dinner and Big Brother 11 followed by the season premiere of Entourage which we have been waiting for all summer!
Now back to the grind with a full work week before heading to the beach next weekend. We do have Tyler's mom and dad stopping in for a of couple nights this week, so we are really looking forward to that!
Way to go Ty for being involved with BBBS! I know that you will keep in touch with Ethan. The impact that you can make on his life is immeasurable! Love you. Aunt Sarah
