Today marked the beginning of the long Labor Day weekend! My sister Tracy came into town from Nashville this afternoon and once she got settled in, we headed out to dinner. We went to one of our favorite places, Mac's Speed Shop, for BBQ and beer. Our favorite North Carolina weather is starting to settle in, so we enjoyed a great night outside.
We brought the cameras to dinner with the hope of having our daily picture "fall into our lap" while we ate. There were some great neon lights but nothing was really turning out well in pictures. About half way through our meal, a couple of fire engines pulled into the parking lot filled with hungry firemen looking for dinner. We could see one of the trucks from our table, Engine 4. I thought maybe we could get a picture of the truck for our project and noted that it was too bad it wasn't Engine 5, which would have matched our countdown day. We payed our bills and I took out my camera as we were walking to the car. Then, as if someone read my mind, parked right behind Engine 4...was Engine 5!
The sun had started to go down and unfortunately the words on the side of the truck were not reflective, so they were not being picked up by the camera flash. Brilliantly, Tyler had the idea to go get the car, drive it around, and shine the lights on the side of the truck so I could take the picture of Engine 5. While him and Tracy walked to the car, I hung out by the truck and had the pleasure of meeting two of the firemen. They opened up the truck and let me climb into the driver's seat! It was very cool and much higher up than I thought it would be. They turned on the lights for me and by the time Tyler and Tracy pulled around with the car, I was able to get a great picture to commemorate my visit with Engine 5.
